Cognitive Decline Among Aging Clients – A Guide for Financial Advisors

This course provides a comprehensive overview of financial planning issues related to diminishing cognitive capacity among older clients.  Students will learn established methods used to detect cognitive decline and dementia in order clients as well as the impact of such decline on financial decision-making. Students will also learn to recognize and address undue evidence of financial exploitation among aging clients alongside mandatory reporting requirements for financial professionals and what to expect after reporting evidence of financial exploitation. Additional topics include reporter protections and penalties, safe harbor protections, legal and financial tools, fiduciary abuse, strategies for securing retirement assets, and advanced planning for changes in capacity.  Through a series of engaging videos, students will learn from a range of experts in the field of cognitive aging to understand its impact on financial planning.
